Hello!

My name is Jessica Hood. I am a queer, disabled artist based on the ancestral, stolen lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. I am a third-generation settler of mixed European ancestry; I was born on Algonquin lands (aka Ottawa) and then raised on the lands of the Ohlone and Graton-Rancheria (San Jose and Santa Rosa, CA). I returned to Canada to attend Simon Fraser University and graduated with a BFA in Theatre Performance in 2014.

For the past ten years, I have been working as a theatre artist, primarily as a performer, producer, and playwright. For more about my theatre background, check out this page. When the pandemic hit, however, I decided to make a career change into the animation industry, where I could still tell stories, now in a digital, more accessible format.

I am a new graduate of the 2D Character Animation program at VanArts. I love all aspects of the animation pipeline, and I specialize in character animation, character design, storyboarding, writing, and rigging in Toon Boon Harmony.

I am passionate about creating new stories that centre femme and queer voices, and I love working within collaborative and inclusive processes.
